Could be interesting, But there are so many features with 3dsmax that are not supported by the stand alone (if I'm not mistaken) that I'm not sure this would be the best solution...

I was also thinking... You couldn't edit the model, so there would be a whole lot of uploading when the model changed.

If you can zip your max files they come down to a tiny amount. As everyone's said with the standalone it won't support a lot of things such as max plugins that won't collapse down to simple geometry or procedural textures. Your interiors might be okay but your exteriors are heavily dependent on plugins I'd imagine.
