  • VRayMtl Translucensy settings

OK I'm pretty sure these settings use to work last time I used it donkey years ago.

But, for the life of me I can't seem to get it to do anything now with VRay 2.5?!?

I tried various combinations of refraction settings, fog settings, and translucency settings.
The refraction and fog does something as it should, but the translucency doesn't seem to do anything (except add to render time)

The help docs are no help at all. No examples in the example pages either
    Kind Regards,
    Morne

translucency seems to work here, what is it that doesn't in your scene?

Well, the whole translucency. Anything I set in translucency doesn't do anything it seems

Could you maybe attach a small max file where we could see the effect in action and modify it from there?
      Kind Regards,
      Morne

here's a quick scene. just a vray mtl with translucency activated and a tinted backside colour to see the effect. don't know if it's any different from what you're getting..

Svetlozar did an amazing rundown here - http://forums.chaosgroup.com/showthr...t=translucency

Some of the posts like those should get put into a best of / sticky section on the forum or a wiki. Great stuff.

ah! was looking for that thread earlier but couldn't find it. most informative posts on vraymtl's translucency I can think of.

Thanks for that link, it's a great explanation.

Interesting that only grayscale values are recommended for the fog colour and refraction. I wouldn't often think of using a colour in the refraction slot but I almost always do in the fog colour when I'm trying to approach a translucent material.
I suppose it just makes the outcome more predictable in terms of seeing the backside colour.
