  • Vray 3.0 backwards compatibility with Vray 2.5

    So here is the situation:

My office just recieved one (1) new vray license dongle. This dongle is for Vray 3.0, However the rest of us use vray 2.5 right now. I was told, or at least this is how it was conveyed, that our new vray 3.0 dongle should run vray 2.5. This is not the case.

On the forum there is a discussion about vray 3.0 running 2.0 for a six month period of time, then it times out and forces you to switch to 3.0. Which is fine, we will be switching the whole office over in another month.

For now I just want the 3.0 dongle to work with 2.5, as I have an employee who is not able to render at all.

Can somebody please explain to me what I need to do get this working?

    Platform setup:
    Windows 7 Pro x64
    3DS Max Design 2014

    Thank you,
    -Jared

On our web site, there is a special build of V-Ray 2.5 that works with the dongle for V-Ray 3.0, so you will have to download it and use that one instead of the original 2.5 builds.

Let me know if there is any other issue.

    Best regards,

Thank you for the quick response. So the build of 2.50.01 I installed was released on May, 27 2014, talking with my dealer, he showed me a screencap for vray 2.5 for 3ds Max ADV Licensed etc...And his screen cap shows a release date for Jul 21 2014.

I cant find that anyone where on my current download page. Perhaps I am looking in the wrong spot?

The attached image shows all that I can see.

Hmm, in that case the best thing to do would be to email our support guys at support@chaosgroup.com with your login name - they will sort it out; it could be that the download needs to be explicitly added to your account.

        Best regards,
        Vlado

I managed to get the new special build from my Vray dealer. We are great.

          Cheers,

Ok then; still it would be good to resolve this eventually.

Please let me know if there is anything else.

            Best regards,
            Vlado
