  • Dynamic mem limit - set negative for OS

    Hi all

I seem to remember something about experimental values, setting a negative value for this to leave that amount free for the OS. Or setting a figure - another figure.
What was that story again and was it moved from experimental to implemented?

If not, is there a way with VRay 2.5 to set this with maxscript by seeing how much ram is in the system and just minus that by say 4GB?
    Kind Regards,
    Morne

I think you just put 0.
I also think it uses the host machines amount of ram to set that figure which is why it isn't on by default - if your slaves are lower it could cause issues.

    (80% sure)

0 means no limit; however you can indeed set it to a negative value that will be subtracted from the available system memory. I need to verify if this works in V-Ray 2.5 though. I think it does, but I need to check.

I only act like I know everything, Rogers.

In 2.5 if I type in a negatiove value it just goes to 0. I'll check a bit later if it can be set to negative with maxscript

Jip, seems I can set it to negative with maxscript
Even thought it shows 0 in the UI, when I print it to the listener, it shows the negative value. I take it then that I CAN do it like that with VRay 2.5?
