  • cant open my exrs in photoshop?

    vray 2.4.04

    photoshop cs6

saved out a render as exr (as ive done many times) 32 bit full float, no compression, scanline.

open in photoshop, its white. exposure adjustment doesnt help.

    open in ae, its black.

open with proexr in photoshop, its transparent.

open in max file viewer, its fine, but automatically converted to 16 bit and flat looking.

    help?

render took 30 hrs so id rather not do it again , especially as my deadline is tomorrow.

ok so this is now officially driving me nuts.

when opened in max file viewer its not really 16 bit, as any saved file has virtually no dynamic range and cannot be even slightly colour corrected.

    i -need- colour correction.

i cannot open it again in the vray frame buffer as it only opens vrimg

i cannot even open it in the vrayhdri plugin as it comes in black

i tried converting to a 16 bit exr using img2tiledexr, comes out black.

    irfanviewer opens blank.

    hdri see crashes opening file.

proexr with alpha ignored opens a wierd posterised green image in photoshop

this is an epic disaster i have no time to rerender client wants to see a progress image by lunchtime.

Can you post it? Or do a very low quality render to see how it looks in the vray frame buffer.

It appears that you created this file with the built-in 3ds Max OpenEXR writer and specified "Integer (32 bits/Channel)" rather than "Full Float (32 bits/Channel)" format. Unfortunately the 32-bit integer format is non-standard; nothing can read this file except 3ds Max. Even so, unfortunately all high-dynamic range information is already lost.

I don't know why the 32-bit integer mode is even present in 3ds Max OpenEXR saver; it should never ever be used.

        Best regards,

good one for people to note that, i never even noticed there are two 32bit options in the exr save dialogue.

          DONT USE THE INTEGER ONE!

i got a stack of unusable renders and ive had to patch the job together out of older renders. yay.

That's why I save out a vrimage through the historybuffer, just in case I saved out wrong and I close max or whatnut before viewing it in photoshop/after FX.
