I am rendering a long... Everything is dandy, and all of a sudden my power cords goes in flames. I was smelling something burn so I downloaded a temp app. The temp was in the 80's, which was high, and then BAM!!! I replaced the cord and the computer booted fine, thank God! What in the world would cause that? Is it normal... as far as a power cord not being able to draw enough power?

I have a Dell. I can't remember if the power cord came with it or not, but I didn't think there was a difference in power cords; I thought that they were all the same.Bobby Parker

You should be able to goto any computer store and get a heavy duty power cord. that's scary that the last one burnt up though, my guess it was far too small of a wire gauge to handle the amount of current that was being drawn.Cheers,

Well I thought that all power cords the same too. But they aren't. You have the heavy duty power cords which can handle high loads (and typically servers ship with them) or any heavy duty power supply ships with such cord as well. Never heard of it going up in flames but damn that's scary shit!
Glad you were there to put this "fire" outDmitry Vinnik

I can't find anything online, either. I didn't mention that I do have the power plugged into a surge protector, too.Bobby Parker
