What's the best way to have both? I'm trying comptex with a+b add, but it doesn't seem to be working.

I think using a composite is easier than using a comptex for this purpose

Something like this?

I'm doing this in my current project. I'm using a VrayCompTex and putting the edgeTex into the "Source A" input. I think I had to have it in source A or it wouldn't work. Even though "adding" the two maps shouldn't matter. But it did.

I also needed different bump values, which isn't possible, so I bailed on the idea. I'll remember your tip next time.Bobby Parker

Different bump values are possible via multiple VrayBumpMtls.
Here is an example:

You can still get different bump amounts using the vrayCompTex approach.
The actual bump amount from a texture map is controlled by going into the output rollout for your texture map and adjusting the "bump amount". Think of it as a multiplier for the amount of bump. Regardless of what your shaders bump amount is set to, you can adjust the bump of any map by changing the value in the output rollout.
