Is there any more info about this?

Curious what this internal material scanner is, what it looks like/how it works, and how much it would cost

That's all there is for the moment; hopefully there will be more info soon.

Ohhh, exciting. Would be nice to finally match my material swatches exactly.

Will it be possible to render BRDF data other than that provided by Chaos Group?

With this material, no. However we've coded a few shaders that read other BRDF descriptions and they generally work fine. They are so specific though, that it didn't really make sense to include them with V-Ray. If you have any wishes in that regard, let us know and we'll see what can be done.
