most important are the min max settings of the irradiance map, depending on the resolution (-3,1 gives very sharp results on 640*480 to 800*600 resolutions)
Note that skylight shadows are always very soft as the light comes equally from all directions.
some little tips to get more details in the shadows.
decrease Interpolation samples
increase HSph. subdivs
increase "Calc pass interpolation samples"
and switch Interpolation Type to "delone" triangulation.
If you get splotches... increase HSph. subdivs.
and of course as pointed above... adjust your min max settings
This won´t dramatically increase your quallity, but it´s
a bit more realistic in very small details and hard corners.
(expect higher rendertimes !!)
Well this washed out gi look , vray sometimes produces often is a point of criticism for brazil users, when they talk about vray. "it only is so fast because it blurres the gi solution ".
Well they are somewhat right here. As long as you use i-map also with high setttings, you blur your i map.
But you can tweek vray to produce as sharp detailed shadows as brazil. Use very high settings, and after this switch to custom, like said, use delone triangulation and also increase Hspsubdevisions, and also a bit your thresholds. This way you are as slow but also as detailled as brazil can be.
well it works this way .Vray can get as fine details as brazil, but other way arround, brazil seems not to be able to produce such artefactfre very fast renderings as vray.
So i think this point goes to vray.
(well and with coming lightmap, you also get such fast results very easy in interior scenes with very very smal work for setup.)
