  • What material should I use?

    Hi,
I have to put an indented circle on a car door handle, the base is a VRay car paint, is the blend material best to do this and retain the car paint base layer? Grab and reference attached. (Tried doing it to the mesh via boolean and it imploded).

    Many thanks.

I'm not sure what you mean here. The indented circle is a geo based operation, how is it related to a material? There is a boolean material I believe, but I'm not sure how it works in max and most likely it won't produce nice beveled edge. Your best bet is to model that area by hand.

Im with Dmitry, I would just boolean the circle in it and call it done rather than trying to map it.

would be a good one to do with the new catmull-clark subdivision and a simple box-modelled skin..

Are we talking about the smaller circle on the handle itself? If so, I'd probably try the VrayDisplacementMod on a new map channel. Personally I wouldn't take the time to model something that simple.

ah you may be right.. i thought he was referring to the scallop in the door behind the handle, but on closer reading its the circle on the handle.
