  • Free Pre-Render Script to check things you may have overlooked

    Hi all

So we've all been there, click render and walk away from your desk, only to come back to something that is not your render. I wrote this little script to help prevent things like that.

    UPDATE: Script rewritten from Scratch

    • New feature – now with a User Interface and remembers your settings
    • New feature – automatically applies the script for you to the “Scripts” > “Pre-Render” setting in the “Render Setup Dialog”
    • New feature (Experimental) – never worry about 3ds Max Gamma settings ever again. Fixes the 3ds Max Gamma to a modern 2.2 LWF at render time*
    • New feature – checks if you have the VFB Region Render Enabled (I don’t recommend using this as it may become annoying quickly)
    • New feature – checks if the Max Frame Buffer is set to “View” (I don’t recommend using this as it may become annoying quickly)

    and

Let me know if you find any bugs. I'm still thinking about the other features already requested...

Use at your own risk. Get it here:

    Hi all

I had a lot of people requested to also add a check for region render. The problem with this is that it's a feature that you actually use a lot. You would more than likely use region more than just a straight render, and a warning everytime can become very annoying for this, more so than forgetting to switch it off.

However, I am thinking of either having an extra script that does what the current one does plus the region check (then you can just choose which one to use), or have a "settings" page where you can choose the things the script checks.

    Which would you prefer?
    Kind Regards,
    Morne

Settings, maybe add additional settings like, override material, check if the render is being saved, or check if lens effects are active. Also the warning dialogue maybe displays all of the warnings at once? And maybe add an option so the scene gets an incremental save with date and time suffix? (just throwing ideas here).

Or maybe you can make something modular, like a whole list of functions that can be checked and you just add the ones to the list that you can use?
      A.

yep i think a list of warnings with a single ok would be a good one. can i add please:

        " warning, vignetting is enabled"

Script now updated. Link on post #1 of this thread

The reason why I don't display everythng one shot is on some of the things, it prompts you to fix or not. You may decide to fix just 1 item at that time and if it's an all or nothing, it may not be as useful. That being said, I will think of ways to make it better for future versions.

The Gamma check is highly experimental!
          Kind Regards,

Thank you Morné , looks great. I was wandering if it is possible to put a warning about distributed rendering and warn if selected render elements are not enabled? I can't t think of anything else.

Sure thing. The DR one is easy and can be implemented quickly. I'll probably add a note next to it since it could also get annoying quickly. Some people like it off for tests, others like it on.
The Render Elements are probably easy also, I just have to look into it some more

Nice, you should check out Deadline's Sanity Check Script and implement the same listbox that enables you to display the message WARN/FIX/FAIL, works pretty well!

Thanks. Didn't know about Deadline's Script, looks pretty awesome! Those are more checks than I ever thought of adding to my script.
Now the decision to re-invent the wheel, or just direct people to Deadline instead... hmmm... need to think about it.

As far as I understand, Deadline lets you use up to 2 nodes for free?
