  • auto save irradiance map *before* render

submitting jobs to backburner. job timed out dueto stupid 10 hr limit i forgot to change. imap had completed, but render was unfinished.

i have "auto save" enabled for imap, but its not saved it.

does it save it after the final render is completed? would be more sensible if it saved after imap was complete, but before final render starts.

that way id be able to reuse the imap even if the render stopped.

The way I have dealt with this in the past is to use the 'dependencies' option in backburner. I send the IRmap to the farm with 'don't render final image' ticked, so that it generates it and saves it and that's the entire job. Then I send the next job without "don't render final image" checked, but to read from the saved file. You can put the file name in even if the file doesn't exist yet, and when that job starts it'll see it.

Once you've sent the 2nd job, right click on it and press dependencies, and then add the IRMap render to the list. It won't start until that is finished and then everything goes well.

yep.. i use dependencies all the time.. was just thinking it would make more sense to save the imap asap instead of after the whole render process. it would have saved me 5 hrs of lost rendertime last night.

ok not sure why it didnt work last time, but this time, the imap has finished, the render has started, and the imap is already saved. so it already does what im asking.
