V-Ray License Server!

I cant find info on this but I wanted to know if I need 3dsmax installed to run JUST the license server? And if not then dose the machine that has the license server on it use up one of the licenses?

I ask as for better security for the dongle I have a media server in the server room, and don't want to have max loaded on it as I don't want to use it for rendering as its pretty old and figured as its locked away and only touched maybe once or twice a year for cleaning, I figured if I can have just the license server on it that might be a win win situation. Hopefully this is relatively clear lol Im still on pretty strong pain meds

No you dont need 3ds Max for the license server to work

You can install the license server without having 3ds Max on the machine.

the license server doesnt use a license.. only machines running vray use licenses.
