  • Haze or atmosphere or ozone

    Hi there,

I asked this before in a "too elaborated" message. There were no suggestion. I thought asking this in a different way...

Could anyone share ways to create atmosphere effects?
Is environment fog the only option in vray?

Examples (I'm not referring to god rays necessarily. Just a way to fake atmosphere in 3D.):

    Thanks!!

Vray atmosphere is being looked at for speed at the minute. Ozone looks quite pretty but it can be very very slow. The majority of production shots end up using clouds on cards for moving cameras and depth passes and colour correction for the look of haze. God rays aren't the worst thing with the vray atmosphere effect if you stick to using regular 3dsmax light like the standard and direct light. When you start using vray lights which are doing proper raytracing and falloff, they can get a bit nastier for time.

So no changes in this field then. That's disappointing!
      Thanks J.

Yeah, it's a bit chicken and egg really. Most companies end up using hacks because there isn't a solution good or quick enough, and there's no point in developing a solution if everyone's using hacks. It's kind of a tough and very specific thing to write though, it's a shame that eon have the market cornered too, their support and development aren't the best.

Dave wortley does a lot of stuff using their programs, mainly for stills, so he can give you a good idea what's worthwhile.

The last thing I saw in terms of cloud generation advancement was I think the Helios plugin for vue from quadspinner. But no idea how useful it really is.
          Cheers,

Helios is gorgeous looking alright, it sits on top of a license of vue and I wasn't willing to buy a system I wasn't going to use just for helios. If they made it run with ozone then I'd give it a run.
