  • V-Ray & Atmosphere's

I am on the cusp of making V-Ray my new renderer. I am coming from many chaotic hours working with Final Render R1 in 3DS 6. My question is whether V-Ray support Siombiont textures, AFterburner, Dreamscape & Volume lights. I usually use FR Volume lights but have had all sorts of problems with these in FR. Does V-Ray support them & if not what do the standard Max volume lights render like ?

    Thanks for your help.

Yes all of those work mostly, simbiont is fine as long as you are not using raytrace reflections, afterburner and dreamscape work fine except for some issues with dreamscape lighting (I can't remember exactly what was the problem but they have been posted here and could be found) and as casewolf said volume lights do work.

        V-Ray at Digital Domain

I was E3 at the Discreet booth and I was talking to Vincent Brisebois from Discreet getting his opinion on renderers and he told me that Digital Domain are starting to use V-ray.... very interesting
Thanks for you reply to my questions on volume lights. I suppose what is more to the point is - do max volume lights look killer rendered in V-ray or just ok ?

        Thanks for your help

look killer in vray? hmmm I guess the only way to answer that question would be to try it yourself. Myself, Ive almost always rendered a volumetric pass separately and then comped it in. Have always done it and most likely always will.
