  • Object Defined Global Subdivs

I'm working on the latest lesson and in the user defined properties can only see GI subdivs as a modifiable parameter.
Is there the option to adjust global subdivs per object? This would be extremely useful for scenes where you need both high subdivs AND AA samples for example keeping the subdivs on interiors surfaces high while plants could be very low.

    What do you think?
    Cheers

    Grant.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think this was requested as a feature a while ago but hasn't made its way into vray yet. Or maybe I'm confusing it with the request for having different AA settings per object.
    Cheers,
    Oliver

Well, I can rework the GI subdivs to work for all sampling of the object (reflections, GI, etc) - would that work?

      Best regards,
      Vlado

That would be amazing because Alexander told me to duplicate the lights and use include/ exclude.

Already this is working great, the interior remains sampled the exact same but now the plants don't have all those useless samples= MUCH faster render time.

        Cheers man!
It's going to be a good lesson.

I think I had asked for per object noise threshold or something like that, in an attempt to do exactly what Grant is trying to.

Looking forward to seeing your solution Grant

This is now done for the next nightly build tomorow, the "GI subdivs multiplier" in the V-Ray object properties is renamed to "Subdivs multiplier" and will affect all shading sampling for that object (reflections, GI, lights etc). Grant, if you can test it and let me know if it works as you expect, it would be very helpful.

            Best regards,
            Vlado

Grant/Vlado, would this method work for universal settings as well? (I'm actually trying it right now)

For the nightlies tomorrow - yes, it works fine (in that case, it essentially bumps up the min. shading rate for that object).

For the current builds, I don't think it will have an effect unfortunately.

                Best regards,
                Vlado

what I'd love would be a solution to rendering this kind of architectural space (clean white interiors, but with trees and grass visible outside) using something as close as possible to universal settings but to be able to tell vray that it doesnt need to spend so much time on things like grass and leaves as more noise in those areas isnt a problem.

                    Hey Vlado,
I requested access to nightlies a while ago but got turned back because the feature I needed was already available in the full release at the time.
Do you want me to re-request access?
Thanks again for implementing this, even though my subscribers don't have access to the nightlies, the workflow in the lesson is making big render time reductions for guys wanting plants/ interiors in the same render.
Can't wait for the official release.
                    Cheers!~
