  • non-view dependent imap?

all this discussion about realtime engines and whatnot, and the upcoming ability to use imap in rt gpu....

would it be possible to script (or code) a system that generated an imap that covers all visible surfaces?

i know we can render to texture, but thats much more fiddly than doing an imap.

-thinking about it i guess it isnt so simple, since its resolution dependent.. how close are you to each face? and on large scenes you would likely have some truly huge datasets..

Technically it is possible to sample all triangles in the scene in some way with a specified density in world units (this is how we do baking to PTex in V-Ray for Maya). Maybe you could specify that you want the densest samples to be no closer than 5cm apart, and V-Ray could work from there.

    Best regards,
