  • Struggling to use vrayRT

    Hi folks,

We have just had a new machine built, spec'd by Workstation Specialists, but as per the title I'm struggling to use VrayRT with it. I'm new to RT by the way, though I have been using max/vray for years - I'm also no I.T. guru! (it does seem like you have to be an IT guru to be a visualiser doesnt it)

    Installed is a:
    AMD FirePro W9100 - 16GB GDDR5 Workstation Graphics Card, and a
    AMD FirePro W5100 - 4GB GDDR5 Workstation Graphics Card

    Vray 2.50.01 - Max 2015 - Win7

If run a small test scene with RT it seems ok. But textures are not being rendered. Switch to Production render and textures render fine. Same occurs with Proxy's..

So is there some magic button tucked away somewhere to 'enable epic GPU rendering'?

'I.T' at work dont know what to do. Workstation Specialits don't know.. so I look to the all knowing Vray forum for help

Here's some images to explain - we all like images don't we

    CPU render

    GPU render

Are these textures procedural or bitmaps ?
In V-Ray 2.5 there are not too many procedurals that are supported on the GPU.

Can you share the file (vrscene/max/maya whatever), so we can take a look at it ?
I think there is possibility that this issue may not be on our side.

Sure. Where should I send it?

I'm sure it will be something which is wrong at my end, but I still want to solve it and use the soft/hardware to its potential

Try absolute file naming? Are your files on the network? Some functions require the pathing to be by machine, so instead of H:/Projects/etc. you'll need //Bubo-Archimedes/Projects/etc. (Using example computer name of Bubo-Archimedes) (Not a Vray thing per se, but a max thing in some cases.)

Did windows throw up a firewall warning the first time you started RT? Maybe the firewall is blocking your ability to get files over the network.

The file path for the wood texture on the teapot is:

                Z:\Visualisation Resource\Photoshop\Maps-images\Wood

Is that ok? it's the same for all files, inc the CPU render above..

No firewall errors when starting up, and if there was I would 'allow' the program through.
