  • Swarovski strass: shader or model?

    Hello,
I'm seeking some advice to produces something that we have never done.
We need to cover home furniture with Swarovsky strass, from a palette of different tone of the same color (more or less).
    Something like this: http://iliketowastemytime.com/sites/...i_studded3.jpg
    What technich do you advice?
Modeling and scattering the model but then we need to adjust thousand of shaders!!!
Shader approach with displace, using a photoshop plug in to create the color palet, then getting a displace/reflec Gloss map from the same image!!!

How the Jewellery CG artist specialized in will deal with that?

    Thanks

I would use forest pack and use the forest colour map to get your palette of colours.

Thanks, it is not worth investing in forest pack just for one project.

          maybe this - http://www.tonifresnedo.com/tutorial...particle-flow/

You might have some issues with scaling and collisions. worth a look if you're not down for buying a plugin though. I think you should be able to pull tex coordinates from the base object, and if not it's easy enough to render passes and masks to do your color in post.

if your wireframe is dense enough you could use lattice modifier to place your objects.

                    Why not.
We will need to normalized the edge in this case, to get the same space between each of them. There may be a script for that.

The lite version can't use custom mesh.

Have you tried this, maybe if you could tweak it somehow to make a polygon shape it could work:

                            OR

                            This
