  • a few vray questions...

our firm is lookiing at a 3rd party rendering package to be used with max/viz.
i have no experience with vray, and their site doesnt explain much.
    anyway,

    Materials-
-how many materials does vray come with?
-does the new arch material add on with max6/viz2005 convert well to vray? (i like a lot of these materials..is it worth it?)

    RPC's-
-does vray work with rpc's? ive read that MR does not, and i think my firm will need to see people/cars etc. i really dont like them much, but i've seen some good results...

    Advanced/Basic-

-Whats the difference? again the site's link just reverts back to another page.

    thanks for any help,

    chuck

you better ask this when 1.5 is released (*).

there are new materials and many fixes and additions.

(*) should be out very soon.

i would really suggest going for the advanced version 1st off. Its got alot of features in it that will be totally needed by you compaired to the basic version. Currently there is only 1 material which is the Vray Material. However with the upcomming release of version 1.5 there will be a few more added. However there are places where you can download a huge collection of pre-created materials all using the vray material which is pretty flexible. The is also some scripted materials based on the vray material as well which simplify the settings to whats important. for example egz-glass, egz-carpaint and egz-wax. It doesnt support the architectural materials with max6 though. Maybe someone on here can come up with a max script to convert your current archetectural materials to a vray material. I know there is one to convert from standard materials.

Vray does work with RPC as you would see in the image section however as you say. the results dont usually look good (ive always favoured using poser models hehe)

One of the things Ive found is the learning curve on vray is realy fast. I hope you come to join out little community here

*even if you bought now. the upgrade to 1.5 is free
