VraySun visibility - Why?

I feel crazy...I thought I used to be able to see the vraysun if I had it set to "visible."
I am trying to see it in RT and normal render, and I get nothing visible, just black BG, and the sun lights my ground plane, but no visible sun.

It's been awhile since I tried this, so has anything changed?

Also, during testing, RT broke

I know a lot of times the sun isn't where you would expect it to be. Have you moved it around just to get it to show up?

Yes, and it did not seem to make any difference. Will keep trying, but I don't remember it being this fussy (2-3 years ago, lol.)

Do you have a VraySky in your environment?



edit: the visibility is linked to the vray sky, if it's set the invisible you will only see the sky not the sun. (taken you have a sky of course)

Thank you Vizioen! Very odd, but you are right, I only have a sun. i don't want the sky. I guess I can add a sky to align my sun, then remove the sky.
I am curious about why the sun needs a vraysky in order for the visibilty toggle to function?!
Not glad I just spent 2 hours screwing with this...

This was done in Vray 3, and as far as I know this hasn't been changed, let me see.

The sun disk is part of the VRaySky map (because it's infinitely far away and must be part of the environment). If you just have the sun, you will not be able to see it.
