  • IM problem in distributed rendering

    Hi all,
I have dark splodges in IM + LC and distributed rendering. My maps are ok.
Any hint on what it could be ? VRay 3.10 +max 2014. Old project ...

I have the same problem with light cache and brute force -
The render works only with irradiance +Brute force

I don't know if that is of any help but If i restart max it renders ok for a while and then it starts doing the black spots again.

Do you have this problem only with one scene or it is for every new scene?
        Can you post some examples?

I believe that the scene i am working is particularly vulnerable to this bug. But it has happened before.
I rendered at 2800+ pixels 7 renders last night without the problem( after a clean restart of 3ds max ) . It happens when i render small bits quickly at low resolutions and then it doesn't recover . I turned all lights off and isolated objects and it still happens. When it crashes for the first time it doesn't recover
I am working on my laptop today but tomorrow i will be able to save an example.

Are you using Bitmap textures or VRayHDRI? There is a known issue in 3ds Max 2014 when the automatic gamma was introduced, where Bitmap textures would randomly ignore the gamma on the render nodes. I think this might be fixed in the newest 3ds Max version. Otherwise, converting to VRayHDRI seems to help.

                Best regards,

I tested all the workstations turned off each one and there was no difference.
                  I use 4 machines.

It renders fine without DR though?

Ok, so can you try to convert the Bitmaps to VRayHDRI (right-click in a viewport and choose Bitmap to VRayHDRI converter) and see if it helps? Make sure to save a copy of the scene before that though.

                        Best regards,

Ok I will try that. I managed to find a workaround by clicking restart server at render end. I will try to change to vray hdri ...

Ok so far so good !
I clicked restart server at render end and changed bitmaps to vray hdri - and it works so far. I will work on the file for a few more hours and will mark it as solved if it is OK.
                            Thank you for your help.

Ok I finished this project now. It happened a few more times but with the restart server at render end and the hdri materials i managed to be able to render almost all the time without dark patches.
