  • nuke pointcloud to max 2015 vrayproxy/native?

Has anyone successfully imported a pointcloud from nuke to view in max viewport?

i'm using max 2015 and have native alembic import but only camera shows in viewport no pointcloud, i've tried vray 2.5 alembic proxy but it is the same (the display options does not do anything).

i'm not sure if this is possible at all or if something is wrong with my alembic file, has anyone done this?

Can you post the Alembic file or send to support@chaosgroup.com so that we can check what's going on?

    Best regards,
    Vlado

Would it be possible to send the alembic file to: support@chaosgroup.com as well, so we could also have a look?
Please mention this thread in your e-mail.

As mentioned in my e-mail: V-Ray 2.x can't read particle information from alembic file.
You can do that with V-Ray 3.x version only.

thanks for all the info guys, it's really appreciated. knowing what can and can't be done helps a lot and saves so much time.

dave, that's an awesome script from dan, i've been searching around for these things a lot lately but never came across that one, thanks for sharing.
unfortunately i don't have access to krakatoa, and there don't seem to be any trial versions, but i will definately consider that option along with a vray upgade, it's way past time for an upgrade already,
but our budget has not been so good lately. hoping for better times.

There is a free but limited version of Krakatoa, if you're just using it for Viewport rather than rendering it will work just fine, contact Thinkbox for a download.

almost there, krakatoa prt loader works well with downloaded sample .csv clouds, but has problems with nuke pointclouds generated with dan's script.
something about not being able to convert array to particle data and not enough entries. uhrgh.

yes! Dan solved it, it was just a matter of removing two characters from the end of the .csv file with notepad.

I've got my lousy mobile footage tracked, solved and pointcloud in max, modelling a 3d representation of the shot is like a walk in the park now.

                        excellent! thanks again guys!

edit: Dan fixed the bug, and the script has been updated, for anyone interested get it here : http://www.dan-grover.com/
