  • transparent objects and gi.

    indoor swimming pool scene.

trying to get a nice blue wash on the cieling from the bounced light out of the blue tiled pool.

if the water is hidden, i get a strong blue bounce light.

if the water is visible, the blue bounce is vastly reduced.

if i turn off "send" and "recieve" gi, and "visible to gi" for the water, id expect vray to behave as if the water was hidden, from a gi perspective. however the water still dramatically attenuates the blue bounced light.

ive also tried turning on and off "affect shadows" and "cast shadows" for the water.. no difference.

    help?

ok, im not sure if this counts as a bug..

i had an override material on the water, with a copy of the water material in the gi slot, only difference being a stronger bump. this was done to adjust the caustics i was playing with, as a material in the gi override slot will affect caustics too.

with this material in the override slot, my changes to the gi multiplier of the pool tank below the water made no difference, and neither did turning on or off the send/recieve/visible to gi in the water object properties.

as soon as i went back to a straight water material with no override, the gi started behaving as expected.

Would it be possible to attach the scene for investigation since we are not able to reproduce the issue on a simple scene.
Let us also know the exact V-Ray version that you are using.
