  • Starting Licence Server with 3DS Max 2014 and 2016 installed ?

I've been using 3DS 2014 no problem and have now installed the latest V-Ray for both it and the install that I have of 2016.

For each install of the latest V-Ray 3.20 I needed to start the licence server (i.e. for both 2014 and 2016 with V-Ray 3.20 for the first time I had a -200 error which to me meant I needed to start the licence for it).

But now when I start my PC and go into Windows for the first time, I get an error message saying a 2nd licence cannot be started whilst one is already running.

How can I stop this message coming up ? And prevent it in the future ?

    Many thanks.
    Jez

You just need one license server running, preferably the one for the newer build. How do you run the license server?

    Best regards,

      Hi Vlado,

When I installed 3.20 for 2014 (my preferred 3DS at the moment), I noticed I had a -200 error in the Render Dialog box, so I chose "Launch V-Ray Licence Server" in my Program Menu (for "V-Ray Adv 3DS Max Design 2014").

Then I installed 3.20 for 2016 and got the same error straight after installation so did the same thing (via "V-Ray Adv 3DS Max 2016").

I just did a fresh install of everything and installed 3dsmax 2014, 2015 and 2016 and just manually ran the license server from the 2016 V-Ray install and have no problems with any version of max running. Are you starting the LC Sever manually or as a service? is your firewall possibly blocking it? If you are starting it manually is it showing up on the lower right near the clock as running?
        Cheers,

Note that during V-Ray installation the license server will be closed automatically and you need to start it again.
As soon as it is running either as a Windows service or started manually it will supply licenses for all 3ds max versions.
