I've found some pretty rubbish tutorials when doing a google search but I wondered if anyone knew of any good tutorials to explain how to use the map slots and get a realistic skin material ?

And if you want something really accurate, the guys in the ICT lab in california and the wikihuman project (which chaos are a big part of) have released this data from their scanner - http://t.co/4YWCxKP8yp - it's really well calibrated data taken directly from a facial scanning rig so they're very accurate amounts and colours for that particular girl's head and should give you a decent starting point.
