if your map is big enough the is no inforamtion loss with vector maps...
do a test... just sculpt your base in mudbox ith the vector map and you should get the exact same object...

Ptex is not losing information if the ptex resolution is good enough. On the other hand, regular UV textures are almost always losing information as the UV space is generally unrelated to the geometry.

[If you are doing this for static objects without deformation, exporting the full-resolution mesh to a V-Ray proxy is still the best way to go.]

      Best regards,

Of course if your map is big enough to sample more than the actual subdivision it's ok, but useless information is contained in it... Why not have the exact information. Playing with morph target inside mudbox shows that the transforms are relative to the level zero mesh. And the total mudbox file size is quite small.
My new uv layout does the edge bleeding fine now. I exported the fbx and unchecked the retriangulate that is the default with the mudbox presets form autodesk. Maybe that was why it was messing before...

Thank you for the very fast answers on this forum! I wonder how you do it, coding and support!

I found that baking from level 2 (not base level) improves the vector quality and also along edges too.

The edge issue is not strictly mudboxes fault. I recall years ago talking to a colleague of mine who mentioned that non horizontal/vertical uv seams will always produce edges since those pixel values are basically interpolated/filtered more. So they always ended up stretching every uv shell borders to squares.
