Stereo Immersive Animation with Unity 5 on to an Oculus?

The short answer is yes, there are a couple people doing fully animated character based short films in unity 5 that can be viewed through an oculus.
This is done in unity - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1LamAe-k9As
With a plugin for it which is similar to john carmack's megatextures that can stream up to 1tb worth of maps from disk.
We're currently testing the same setup to export scenes with baked lighting and textures - our current test scene has about 40gb of maps and runs with no frame drops on a gtx 670 - but as always the preparation alone raises the budget required to do something like this far beyond what is reasonable for what amounts to a cool effect. Most would just choose us rendering a 5k image from the left and right eyes to get a lenticular printed.

The Unity plugin for high resolution textures would be this, http://amplify.pt/unity/amplify-texture/
I'm still in the mindset that the baking workflow will be best for current projects where we're already rendering still images with 3dsmax/Vray. It's just a matter of time for scripts & plugins for that sort of workflow to make the process easier.Brendan Coyle | www.brendancoyle.com
