  • pause and resume render..?

it would be a dream for me if i could stop a render, then resume it later.. ideally saving it to a temp file so i could free up my ram for another task in the meantime.

ive currently got a progressive render thats been going for 14 hrs on all my machines. not quite finished, but client has urgently requested a quick test render of another scene, which i cannot open due to ram constraints since im rendering.

only option is to stop, and therefore lose the render ive done so far.

is it theoretically possible for vray to do some kind of dump of its current memory contents, to be reloaded later and continue rendering where it left off?

I too want this feature, but you don't have to lose what you've already done - simply save it out as a .vrimg and reload it back into the frame buffer when you next open up the project, then region render parts that haven't finished yet.

Vlado has said it will hopefully be available in SP3
It already works on Rebus farm apparently

yeah unfortunately its a progressive render, so region rendering the missing bits isnt an option

        - i wonder if the suggested "resume" feature will allow us to close and reopen the file, or if it will need to be kept open between pause and resume.

One of our developers is looking into this, but I don't know when it will be available.

            Best regards,

This will be very useful with cloud rendering where you don't have guaranteed uptime.
