  • 8gb .vrimg file

    Hello,
So we got a task to render 25k image and my first thought is to render in vrimg format. Currently it is rendering and i have questions about next thing to do. In the exit we have an vrimg file of about 8gb thick. Will vrimg2exr handle such big file ? Or i will need to load it into 3dsmax vray framebuffer and save from there ? Also i am curious if i can open partially rendered vrimg to check what's inside ? It is finished now for 93%. Currently i am trying to open it in vrayframebuffer but 3dsmax just eats all the 60gb of memory in 5 seconds and thats all !
    Thanks.

How big is your render and how many render elements do you have in it?

It is 25000x16666 and i have pretty much of elements. Well render is finished (24gb vrimg file) and i tried couple of standard tools and methods , like opening it in 3dsmax and converting with vrimg2exr tool just by running it with GUI - nothing worked. What worked is running vrim2exr via command line with -buffersize and -separatechannels keys (i think i spelled that correctly) , and it started extracting files just fine.

Yeah I would render to separate files for elements

vrimg2exr will generally work fine, but as you find out you might need to adjust the buffer size and ultimately write each channel to a separate exr.

Yeah that's exactly what i did and that's the only option to convert such big file. I have 64gb ram so i let vrimg2exr use 50 of it while separating each channel.

Just out of interest why are you rendering at such a big res? What's the image being used for?

Well client said they would print it on a banner. I have no idea why they need it around 600 DPI. Well he asked - we are doing

Ha, fair enough. As long as they're paying for it!
