First and Second Bounce

Just wanted to clear up what these things meant so i can imporve my lighting and make my scenes look better .

What is First Bounce Multiplier and What is Second Bounce Multiplier ?

From what i understand First Bounce is the brightness when it hits an object and Second Bounce is how much light bounces off that object thus meaning how bright the reflection off it is ...

Please clarify this for me ...

the first diffuse bounce: when the ray hits and bounce and hits.

More bounces from this are the secondaries.
