  • black spots with vray in a rhino imported file

Again a trouble with npower rhintomax..
when I import the file and try to render with Vray the cube appers with black spots (it seems checked); while if I render with scaline this does not occur...

    any ideas?

I tried to flip normal in rhino but does affect it! I also think that does not depend on the material properties!
It happens both with Viz and Max.

looks like you have to unify the normals

looks to me, as if the geometry is imported twice @ the same place. maybe in this object, all faces are duplicated?

I just created a box into Rhino and then imported in max.
Could depend on the "Two side trimmed surface" checked option in npower dialog box?

i don't know the parameters of the rhino-object...

can you roll-out all rollouts and make another screenshot? you can try to convert your object it to mesh and look into it, if there are two materials? i also would try to uncheck the "two sides", maybe this object just will insert a turned duplicate of the faces in this object... you should use a double-sided material instead...

it seemes, that this option simply put - when checked - for every surface anoter flipped surface in this object. a scanlinerenderer doesn't have a problem with this, but a raytrace-engine need exactly one face, when a ray hits a surface. if there are two faces at the same place, the engine does'ntknow, which to use and so it is a little bit like interferences, the material looks like yours before...

Yeah never use that option! If your model is good, you shouldn't need it.

                      Hi krembo,

try the npower rhino to max software, you'll be amazed. 3ds is far from perfect with complex shapes (for example a product with small fillets, many trims and blends etc...). Rhino's meshing algorithm is nothing compared to that from npower. And with large models with many parts, it's a lot of work to convert it all to 3ds because you need different settings for different objects, with npower this is not the case. Plus it's not so heavy in the viewport because it's still rhino data inside of max, the meshing occurs just before rendering.

when u need a solid object, you dont you need the "explode assemblies into separate brep objects"
the two sided option, also useless in this case, uncheck it,
Also I would very much like to see what object causing the trouble, could you upload somehwherwe, or tell the steps to recreate the problem...
It should work no doubt, except u screw up something. or the file damaged. (use the check, or SelBadObjects command)

Yes..If u name the objects in Rhino..is is easy to control then in MAx anyway!

You can select them by their name...(press H key and select objects there )
