  • Saving image with background from VFB?

Is it possible to save out an image from the frame buffer along with the background image added via the color corrections panel? I am rendering an object against black background but having the background image turned on doesn't save the background. It is black (the environment color in Max) instead of showing the background image I used.

You cannot save the file with the background image baked in from the Vray frame buffer as far as I know, but you can put your own image into the max default environment tab and then turn on the vray environment tab and place a colour in there that you want to be reflected.

    Cheers.

That's is correct, the Background Image feature in VFB is only for preview purposes it is not written in the output file.

Thanks, I thought that would be the case. Although it would have been nice if there was an option that allows you to save with the BG image. The reason I like using the BG option in the VFB as opposed to the environment slot is that if I do any color corrections they do not affect the background which is not the case if I use the environment slot.

Plus (and this is a big downside for me) the environment slot slightly iluminates your scene... Having an option to save vfb bg img would be nice

That is easily fixed. Just go to "Environment" tab of the Vray render settings and activate the "GI environment" option. Then make sure you have a black color there (it's black by default). This will override whatever is in your regular Environment slot but you will still be able to see your regular environment. You can also override the environment reflections & refractions in the same way if you activate the "Reflections/Refractions environment" checkbox and put black color (or any other color or a texture).
