  • shader for realistic shark skin

    Guys,

Just I thought i'd throw this out there. Can anyone give me any idea on how best to make a realistic shark skin? Whats the best shader type to use? SSS2?
Doing this for a course assignment and am trying to figure best way of doing this.

Any tips possible would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

    Michael

The magic will be in the texturemaps...but SSS2 will be the starting point.

      Hi,

Thanks for the tip. I have tried following this walk through as best I could but I'm having trouble getting it to look right. I have used SSS2 shader as my base and then plugged it into a vray blend material as base. What I don't follow is how the wetness and specular is layered. Are these normal materials with same diffuse and different glossiness values plugged into coat layers? Also specular colour where do I plug this in? It looks like it's plugged into one of the reflective coat materials but it looks like in Maya you can plug separate maps for spec and spec colour. I want to get that sort of oily look. I have attached what I have so far?

      Cheers
