I will post a screenshot of our servers Task-Man. Seems we talk from 2 different point of views. Sorry for that ... greetz

Let’s forget about which is better and concentrate on the issue...this is not going to be a debate whether AMD is better that Intel or the other way around....everyone has their own opinion on what system he or she wants. And since DP started the post about cache size in Intel processor…I guess ill try to finish it with the answer. I have an old machine...P4 2.4 with 512 cache using 1 GB DDR400 and rendered at 1min and 33 sec…which is about 1 minute slower than the dual Xeon that I use

      2.4 = 1.33min
Dual 3.06 = 35sec... i think this is a good enough reason for me why i want to use duall xeon in my config...you have to remember....that a p43.2ee got 1:02min.

To get the best result…always combine the best chipset with the right ram type…if your motherboard supports faster ram…then get it…

Either use E7505 or 875 for Intel P4 or Xeon…[/b]

hi i'm new here, but for my experiences working with profesional, here r sumary:

wat ever xeon is high end p4 core eg:
        sisoft sandra test:
        p4 3.0c 512cache- real time speed running is 3600mhz
single xeon 2.8 512 cache- real time speed rinning 4300mhz

i've test both my systems wih HT enable, bare ur minds that only single xeon, if 2 xeons, sure will double the speed, thats why i made this sample test interior rendering:

        p4 3.0 -now i'm overclock(overclock 3.6ghz with subzero cooling) - 48min 50 sc

        dual xeon 2.8 fsb533mhz 512 cache - 18 min.

lots of different, the xeon systems i couple up with ASUS PC DL deluxe using i-875 chipset, and i found out this mainboard really stable, cheap, faster than intel 7505,7105.

Reza i think u should test this mainboard, coz i met this guy, BOY his name, owner COMPTERZONE at low yat plaza, i hang out with him for one day just to buy highend xeon systems, we made a lot of test and configuration and finaly, got this powerfull systems with my tide budgets.

        dual xeon 2.8ghz
        ASUS PC DL mainboard
        Corsair 1 gb ram pc 3200 ddr 400 x 4 (4 gb)
        Quadro fx 1000
        250 quantum Fb Sata
        DVD-R 8x gigabyte

        bout rm 12k, usd 3k

luv much this cpu, veery fast!

REZA, i forgot to mention... the scene i used is 320px quick photon test of a room. XEON in that case had Premiere, Photoshop, Max, AV, and who the hell knows what i had on both screens. I am a bad benchmarker

          But anyway...

Moruh....do you mind telling me what year you bought the computer?it seems a little high...especially if you bought it this year....for that price..
you could have gotten dual 3.06 1 mb cache ,same motherboard...2gbram
256mb graphic card 4 sata drive configured for raid 0 and matching component you have...

by the way...now you can get a dual 3.2 1mb cache with lesser than 12k...

Hey Reza, my max uses 680mb of ram, you got any thoughts on why this would be?

when you say it uses 600+ ram..do you mean while doing work or rendering or at start up?

mine is using around 640 mbs at render time......

I think it just depends on the scene...

                  paul.

PS: it uses about 500 mb when sitting idle...with a scene of about 670,000 polys......that does sound like a lot of memory hogging...never paid attentinon to that when it's idle....

using XP pro w/ a dual athlon @ 1.7ghz and 2 gb off ram.....

guys...that is normal....the max model we use is actually a zip kind of a format...very small...but when the file is opened its actually uncompressing the file...such as object that has been instance...instead of copy...when max starts up it will hold just about as much as ram as the file is required...thats why it varyies from file to file...

Well, I've done a quick test at home, while browsing at internet, and the time was 1m 30 sec in my Athlon 2600 1Gb DDR 400.
Such a high time I think, maybe should do a real test without any other app running to get a better time...

by the way people...always work about 2 hours or so then save the work...then reset max and reopen the file to continue working....max will get rid of unwanted data on the rams....and will prevent from hangs and lost of work...

                          Reza,

please do an internet-search for "msbb.exe" which is in your taskmanager process-list
It's an executable you don't want running on your system and it's eating up 35MB of memory......

                          regards,
                          Marco

i just rendered the test scene in 59 secs on my dual amd 2400+

Which is not bad considering my computer is 2 years old!
