I am new to 3D modeling and am using Sketchup mainly and a bit of 3ds Max although it is too expensive. I can't post a new thread in the Sketchup section for some reason.
Anyways, I am having trouble producing scenes with much realism. Here is a scene I am working on in Sketchup:

Here is a render using Indigo:

And here it is using Vray:

As you can see, it is very noisy. Lighting is bad, not much realism. I want to stick with it because so many people say that vray is THE renderer to use. Any tips on how to start getting better renders? I used about the same amount of time with Indigo so I'd hoped I'd at least get similar results. One of my main problems is that I can't do lighting well yet. In Indigo, I can create a shape or use an existing shape and turn on emission and make it a light. I can't seem to do that in vray. I do see an emission layer option but when I use it, it doesn't work. For this scene, I just made a few vray sphere lights just to get the scene lit.
I'm not sure why there are all those white dots all over the place and nothing seems to have much reflection or shininess like the Indigo render.
Is there maybe a video tutorial I should watch to get me on the right track? Like I've said, I've found Indigo to be fairly easy to use and I get nice renders. However, I've seen work from people using vray that is absolutely stunning so I know it can be done.
Also, I find vray to be extremely slow compared to Indigo. After pressing the RT button, it seems like a long wait before I even see the render window. I tried enabling the CUDA acceleration option since I have 2 nVidia 670's and figured I could get some nice speed. However, I found it to be quite a bit slower and it also darkened my scene for some reason.
