  • gamma seems to be upset after installing 3.3...

I think i'm having gamma issues since installing vray 3.3...

it seems that on completion of the render it's applying gamma and washing out/overexposing my scene...

the scene worked fine prior to the install...

my fileInGamma is 2.2 as is fileOutGamma.
colour mapping is set to "colour mapping only"
and gamma in colour mapping is set to 2.2.

it's correct as it is rendering then on completion of the render it's applying something that washes out the shot...?
    am i doing something silly...?

    Hi,

Is it the same when you reset 3DS max and render as scene with sphere and light only?
If you get double gamma only with specific setup, please post or send us the file to support@chaosgroup.com and we will investigate further.

    Thank you.

Yes, try with new scene file and see if the double gamma issue still persist.

Maybe you have lens effects enabled in VFB. Sometimes those settings can be wack and make it look washed out
          Kind Regards,
          Morne

It would be very helpful if we can check your scene. So please send us a small part of the scene that reproduces the issue in your environment to support@chaosgroup.com for further investigation. Maybe we will be able to reproduce the gamma issue here with your file.
              Thank you.

I have reinstalled the 3.3 update on one machine and tested the scene again, it is the lens effects (Bloom and glare) as if i switch them off it reverts to the correct image.

if i turn off bloom and glare, render the image, then turn it back on and re-render it again the same thing happens and the image is complete washed-out/overexposed.

I'll archive the scene and send it on to support@chaosgroup... or is there a work-around for this?

on a new scene it seems to work fine...

Glad to hear that you've figured it out. There is a very similar issue already reported to our developers with V-Ray Lens effects and custom color mapping settings. We will check your scene file and let you know whether the issue is the same and what you can do to get correct render result.

Confirmed. It is the same bug as the one we have forwarded to our developers already. We will post here as soon as the fix came out.

so what is the actual bug? is it to do with dropping the reinhard burn value & the lens effects? if i returned the burn value to 1.0 would that correct it in the mean-time?
or is it simply best to await a new build/fix...?

According to our tests, more likely the problem is in the color corrections and Lens effects set to Render element only. You can change one of these parameters if they are not critical for your workflow and final render result until we manage to fix it.
We will keep this thread updated with the latest information.

This lens effects issue has been fixed for the next service pack release.

Thanks for the update Tashko. Do you have an ETA on the service pack? If it's longer than a month, would you suggest to use the nightlies until then?
                            Kind Regards,
                            Morne

We are working on this, but can't provide any ETA at this moment.

I believe it shouldn't take so long, but in case that you need this working for your current project then you can use the nightly build.
