  • V-Ray Quick Settings

    Hello,

I been using Solid Rocks to manage my quick preset settings however the developer has not updated the script to work with the SP3 update. I've been trying to use the V-Ray Quick Settings to save my daily workflow preset but it doesn't seem to be working well in SP3 and I don't see any controls over the color threshold or IM adjustments ect.

Does anyone use the V-Ray Quick Settings?? are they any help? I don't really care for the defaults but I'd like to be able to make/save my own presets and be able to control them with a few sliders like I can in Solid Rocks.

Please note that V-Ray Quick Settings are not updated to operate with the new default settings introduced in versions 3.30.03.
Despite the above everything should work fine and if it doesn't please let us know what doesn't work.

V-Ray Quick settings doesn't have a separate controls for Color Threshold, Irradiance Map settings etc.
It has three Quality sliders for GI, Shading(DMC Sampler) and AA(Image Sampler), if you would like to have more control over specific parameters you could do that from the Render Setup window.

A custom preset could be saved from the button right next to Presets dropdown list:

Is this still the case for 3.4? I'm not really using it as I've never quite understood the relationship between the sliders, but I find it interesting that Quick Settings uses BF+BF for exteriors and IM+LC for interiors. I typically use BF+LC for my interiors and was wondering if there is any advantage in using IM? It seems a tad faster but have weaker shadows somehow?

Has Quick Settings been updated and should be avoided?

The link below is valid from 3.3 onwards, for all V-Ray implementations.

Yes, that thread was very interesting. However, I couldn't find a reason where to use BF+LC vs IM+LC for example, which is the main difference between interior and exterior render in Quick Settings.

BF+LC is a very good choose for exterior scenes especially if they are with animated objects.

Forget the IM, for a while, and give a try to the new approaches with BF+LC.
You'll not be enjoying quite the same speed as an IM on a simple image, but you will not recognise the speed at which your image will clean up, without artefacts, be it in interiors or exteriors, with BF and LC either.
Both techniques have been improved by Vlado to a large degree, and are by far the favourite choice when it comes to hassle-free renders of pretty much any subject.
Of course, hey, feel free to spend time tweaking to minimise unavoidable artefacts, and use IM.
              It still works just fine...

Hmm, so I have some red in my rendering, but the max subdiv is already at the default 100, should I go higher?

It depends from the quality, if the result is not as clean as you would like you could go higher with the Subdivisions or lower with the Noise Threshold.
If it the quality is good enough but the render times are too high you could take the opposite way higher Noise Threshold or lower Subdivision.
