  • Rt render termination.

it would be good if RT finished the pass it was on before stopping.

i was doing some quick test renders with a 0.01 noise threshold, and i had terrible flickery quality variation frame-to frame, and often an obvious "box" in the middle of the screen, where an update had started, then stopped halfway to the edge as the threshold had been reached ( i assume, or its a bug)

also, unless i understand poorly shouldnt the samplereate pass always arrive close to blue when it finishes with RT. ?

here are a few example samplerate passes from different frames. as you can imagine the final sequence flickered like an old movie.

please note that at this stage of the sequence, this is literally a vrayplane with a sun and sky, and no camera animation.. an unchanging scene basically.

i was very surprised how crap it came out.

please note: im on a nightly build from last week.

    Hello,

Is the "box" only in the sample rate or is it visible in the RGB pass too ? The box in the sample rate is a known issue but it shouldn't affect the RGB - noise is calculated only after a pass is finished.

Generally the sample rate should go blue if the render finishes due to noise threshold.

Is it possible that you had some other finish criteria set too - like max time or max paths/pixel ? In that case rendering can stop before the sample rate becomes blueish.

It would probably be easiest if you could share a scene and date/build number for the nightly ?

    Best regards,

      hi thanks for the reply.

the box is visible in the render, since there is a slight brightness difference between passes.

i do have a max paths/pixel active, but its set to 40,000 to clamp any extreme pixels. its not limiting the render in this case, since if i half the noise threshold the render gets much longer.

i suggest if the samplerate should be blue by the end of the render, then there is a bug of some sort, especially since there is a massive variation frame-to-frame, and the sequence is static.

my build is 3.35.01, 26580 for max 2014.

i can package up a scene (its large) if necessary, but maybe you can recreate the issue on a simple scene?

ive got basically standard rt settings, just with max noise set to 0.01 and 40,000 for max paths. vray sun/sky. vray plane with grey diffuse.

there is animated geometry in the scene, but its off-frame during the period specified, and scaled to 0.

        Hi,

I'm trying to reproduce this with build 26580 but I can't get it to happen.

Could you send the v-ray log file (%temp%\vraylog.txt) after rendering a few frames - maybe there will be something that will help..

If the scene is large - could you write to support at chaosgroup.com - they can provide an ftp to upload it.

        Best regards,
