  • Using a Synology DiskStation as VRay License Server?

Is it possible to use a DS1813+ as License Server?

I'm not so familiar with network administration hence the question.
I set up license servers on actual server machines and I was just wondering if it's at all possible with a NAS (which I guess it's not, but just to make sure ^^).

I don't know if you could run the license server software on it though - a lot of folks will get some of those tiny hp proliant things and set them up as a nas, that's just normal windows so that's possible.

Yeah it's not really necassary at the moment, just thinking of the future. We only got a diskstation here and its sufficient. I'd just llike to set it up centralized right now for less hassle down the road and was wondering if it's possible iwth our current setup

Hi, Synology has virtual box to install virtual machines. I do not know how easy it is to install. Qnap supports VMs directly in its software.
Remember to to install a lot of ram if you are using a VM.

          Hi,

I don't quite get what you're saying. Is it an App I download for the DS so I can run a VM on it? And what is Qnap?

Google virtual box, it is described on the synology forums. The last time I read about it, it seemed to be a little complicated to install - but that was a couple month ago and might have changed in the meantime.
Qnap is a Nas seller like synology. They are developing their own nas software like synology does.
