  • Bucket size - magic number?

    Hi all

Is there a magic number or good rule of thumb for bucket size?
Make it too small and you get sampling issues and it renders longer.
Make it too large and it renders longer and you wait long for feedback

    32 to 48 seems good for 1280 X 720 or 1920 X 1080 images.

What would be a good number for images 10K or 15K wide?
    Kind Regards,
    Morne

Usually 16-32. Works fine in most cases.

I set mine to 24, but I'm not sure why.

very large buckets will require more ram. Its a balance between speed/performance. You don't want one 256 bucket sitting for 5 hours while rest are idle.

For me it's all about core counts.
If I render locally, 16 is usually my preference for 1080p, could go for 24 or 36 for 5k render.
If I use the farm (about 50 nodes) then the power is so huge I need to lower bucket sizes otherwise part of the farm will sit and wait so I can go down to 8 for 1080p and 16 for 5k renders.
