  • Dome Light, Render Elements and Alpha

Hello, I know this is probably pretty obvious but it has left me scratching my head.

I am illuminating an exterior scene with an hdr applied to a VRay dome light and I want to save my render as a 32 bit EXR file broken down into the various render passes.

At the minute I have the following passes selected - Alpha, Background, Self-Illumination, GI, Lighting, Reflection, Refraction, Specular.

If I select affect alpha in the dome light settings I don't get any alpha information for the sky. If I deselect affect alpha I get alpha information but no sky.

Is there a way to render our the separate passes for compositing and have both the sky (domelight) included and an alpha channel for the sky?

    Cheers,

    James

    Hi,

I think this should be done in two separate render passes.
How complicated is the Alpha channel of that scene? The image alpha of a spherical Dome should be completely white. Or maybe you are using files with alpha channels to map it?

The best way I found is to link your hdri to the max environment and hide your vray light.
