  • how do you simulate interior overcast conditions?

    Hi guys

Just wondering how you you guys simulate interior overcast scenes? I hate when i do interior scenes with vray and the sun is beaming in. I try and avoid is as much as possible. I see some beautiful renders out there and they seem to have some nice diffuse lighting simulating overcast conditions. Any tips on how I can achieve this?

    Thanks guys

Set the sky type to CIE overcast. Set the sun at 12:00 mid day (directly above). Increase the sun's SIZE multiplier to something like 10 or even 20 (this will give softer shadows)
You can also increase the turbidity parameter in the sky. This will "add" more haze and dust in the sky and therefore make your VRaySky a bit darker and hazy. This is sensitive so don't increase too much
    Kind Regards,
    Morne

Thanks so much for your response. Playing with it now and im getting decent results.

What are your thoughts on using HDRIs for interiors? Skyportals?
I avoid both of those due to longer rendering times but i see on some tutorials that many people do this. Maybe im too impatient

      Thanks again

A simple dome light with a colour temperature of ~6000k - 7500k will generally. Adjust the camera white balance accordingly.
