  • multiresolution exr = tiled exr?

so we have a tool to convert an image to multiresolution exr.

is that the same thing as a tiled exr?

i understand it loads different resolution copies of the image based on need, but it seems to always be the whole image, at whatever resolution.

therefore if the image is in perspective, and you see part of it very close, it will load a full high resolution version, despite most of the image being at a shallow angle and far away?

i thought a tiled exr would load only necessary parts of the image for the bucket that was rendering, then discard them?

    or am i mistaken?

if im not mistaken, how do i go about making a tiled, mutiresolution exr and using it in vray?

Multiresolution OpenEXR images are always tiled. During rendering, V-Ray loads only the tiles that are needed, only from the mip-map levels that are needed. The loaded tiles are kept in memory until the memory limit is reached. When the limit is reached, some of the least recently used tiles are unloaded so that the used memory drops below the limit.
