Why do we have choices? What are the pros/cons of each of them? I tend to set mine to Spiral, but the default is Triangulation. Any speed differences?

i believe triangulation is the optimum arrangement to reduce to a minimum the loading and unloading of geometry.. it "jumps around" the scene least.

I wish I could change it mid render...

Super gnu is right that "triangulation" jumps the least around the scene and might be helpful if V-Ray needs to unload stuff during rendering (tiled textures, proxies etc). But if everything fits in RAM, it really doesn't matter. I sometimes change it just for the sake of change

Me too. Too much Foucault in my past

I like using left to right when doing 18k x 1.5k VR images because it is more satisfying and predictable to see whats going on.

Good to know. I'll probably leave it default from now on, unless a see a reason to change it.

Does the choice of sequence make a difference to how the estimated time remaining is calculated?

I usually use the follow cursor and wipe out the sky first, then when it starts rendering the actual scene, it is more accurate.

Sometimes someone else in the office that has never done any 3D likes to come over and if I'm testing or something on my computer, they like to pretend to render while moving the cursor and the rendering follows the cursor. Makes them feel omnipotent.

If the buckets get clogged on a particularly difficult and slow area, I switch to mouse and let one or two buckets render of other areas. I dont know if it speeds up the overall render time or not, but I feel like at least I am making progress.

Seems to me we all kind of do that. However, if from testing and stuff I know of a particular area that is more time consuming, I may render around that area and leave that for VRay's smaller buckets at the end to chunk at it, or viceversa, I may do that one area first knowing that my last buckets will not get stuck on that area, because I have had it where there is that one bucket still that takes longer to render than almost the whole scene.
