does such a thing exist? id like to compare two machines, one belonging to a friend. he only has maya, i only have max. we are in different countries, and its just a matter of curiosity, so not worth major effort.

id imagine it would not be possible to get a reasonable comparison. unless a generic scene could be run standalone on both machines?

it would be awsome if we have some official benchmark. it would be a great help to all.
not to mention other rendere like octan, corona, arion and ... already has this. althrough they maybe have some issues but atleast there is something to compare.
I hope choas group provide it in future.

Yes something that takes at least an hour or two. These 2 minute benchmarks are useless

for me, specifically id like it to include DR.. since our "argument" is wether my 2 6-core oc'ed machines are faster than his single 20 core monster.

We have some 20 core machines. Sometimes they're like 4x faster than 8 core machines. Sometimes the 8 core machine is twice as fast. Really depends on the scene.

i was very surprised when i discovered that one of my 6 core i7's (at 4.4 ghz) renders a touch faster than a clients dual six core xeons, at 3 ghz.. dont know how scene specfic it was, but it put a right spanner in the works for my rendertime estimates on their farm..

We do not have such tool for the moment but you could compare the results from V-Ray Standalone for example.

would it be fairly easy to bundle a locked-down copy of standalone with a test scene and a batch script to run it? seems like creating such a benchmark would be good publicity, and not too much work (although i dont know about the "locking down" part) you could have a simple menu to choose cpu or gpu rendering.

The demo version of the product could be used for such tests, it has some limitations but they woudn't be an obstacle for the benchmarks.
