  • Multichannel EXR Compression

Quick question what is the compression & storage type if we save multichannel EXR files via the render setup -> V-Ray raw image file -> save as exr?
And if need be can we change them via max script?

I think it is zip by default but you can change it with the VRayOptionRE render element to other compression formats.

Thanks vance! That takes care of the compression. Now that just leaves the storage type maybe someone from ChaosGroup can pitch in?

The storage type of the EXR is always scanline when Memory Frame Buffer is active and tiled when inactive.

When the image is rendered without Frame Buffer it is written directly to the HDD in tiles and the tile size is equal to the bucket size.
When Frame Buffer is active the image is stored in the RAM and at render end is the written as a scanline EXR file.
