hey Vlado Great to here that there's going to be a denoiser built in . Would this require two renders to be done (different seeds) for one frame of denoised frame?

Yes, eventually. This type of algoritm is very well suited for GPU processing.

No. For the moment, I chose an algorithm that works on one regular image and its render elements.

Having it denoise the render elements is such a good idea. All the denoisers I've used remove too much texture detail.

            Ours doesn't

Awesome Great, single frame is so much easer to manage and simple.

In all fairness, I believe Innobright is working on a version of Altus that accepts multichannel side-by-side OpenEXR files (V-Ray can generate these if you render stereo with 0.0 eye distance).

Hold on, a denoiser???? built into VRay???? That's such great news!!!! Why get something else out there when Vlado and Lele are already onto it? Hope to see it soon, not to sound like a broken record, since everyone so far is crying for it on this thread!!

                        The results look very interesting.
Out of curiosity, and if you are at liberty to divulge, is it based on some variation of non-local means?

WOOT! We normally run our noisy frames through Nuke's denoiser.... I hope this will be faster. 4k spherical frames take forever Thanks guys!

hey Vlado, is the Denoiser working after rasterization or pre rasterization (at sample leve like go gohest thing we saw at siggraph!)? im wondering if AA filtering will effect it?

if its post rasterization will it be in nuke as a plugin as well?

                            thanks
                            S.

                            p.s. fantastic new

Nope, it's based on bilateral filtering with some wavelet decomposition thrown in.
