  • How do I reduce prepasses?

I recently switched from vray free to vray basic. One of the differences Ive found is that in free I could use the IR map presets to determine the number of prepasses for the rendering. In basic I always see 4 prepasses being done no matter what the preset is. This is really slowing things down as my test renders are much longer than before.

    Any Ideas?

actually more prepasses can speed things up.
the number of prepasses is defined by the min & max values of all interpolation settings.
like -3 / -1 for the irradiance map should be 3 prepasses, but if you also use glossy reflections with -3 / 0 it's 4.

Thanks for your response. Where do you set the glossy reflection values?

....but, if you still insist on 1 pass for tests, avoid glossies and set min/max rates to something like -3, -3 or -2, -2 etc.

          i have a question about prepasses&glossies:

is there a possibility to disable glossies in a global way?
the reflections would still be shown in the rendering.

Glossys are only used if you turn them on. without then you just get clear reflections and refractions.

And i dont think there is a global "glossys off" switch anywhere. This would only help if you had a scene with lots of glossy effects and you wanted to do some test renders with the glossy effects off to spend up the test renders.
