  • 1.09.03 and 1.45.70 running together?

Anyone know of a way to get the two working side by side. I tried the -p switch but realized that vray60.dll conflicts with the older version.

    I am using 1.45.50 on max 5 and 1.09 on max 6

Thats the only way i could think of using them together

J_Bug - you took the words right out of my mouth. It would be nice to have both installed and have the option running either one.

if you had 2 copies of max in different partitions ... that would work.

Here at work I have been running several versions on the same max, my method is to append the version letter to the versions I am not using.

          for instance:

          VRay50.dll.m
          VRay50.dll.i
          VRay50.dll.145

          The same for the plugins

This way the files will not load and you can keep track of them, not the most glamorous solution but it works

maybe someone can create a .bat file or something (i dont know much about programming) that renames the files automatically.

                    Hmm,

of course, you could want to use several versions.

but in my experiance there´s no need for that. the internal does nearly everything the 1.09 could do, but faster and with more control.

I did often here people to be affraid of using this beta. Oll our tests showed, that this internal allready for our work could do the job. bugs that are still left, mostly apear in areas with new functions. but we right now have totaly switched to the new internal.

at last you could easy reinstall the old 1.09, if there´s any need.

                      Great solution Eric, thanks

Tom I use VRay in two locations and one of them has only upgraded to MAX4

I copied the hole max folder and renamed one to max6_orig and the copy to max6 where I installed the new beta... when I want to switch back I only have to rename the max6_orig to max6 and the other to max6_??, just as you want.

                        best regards

You could also create separate folders & just rename those. Easier to handle than renaming all the files every time. I always install plugins into their own folders so that I can temporarily disable them quite easily.

You cannot just create a new folder to separate the different versions because of the vray dll's in the root of max, there is no way (that I know of) to tell max which dll's to install and which not to...

Like themaxxer says, copy the whole 3dsmax directory to a new one say 3dsmax1.45.70

When installing 1.45.70 point the new ones

Create a new direct acces that points the new directories

You have both, even simultaneous max sessions one with 1.09.03r and one with 1.45.70 no need torevert anything

Only but is Backburner will point only original max install, so install 1.45.70 with that knowledge on the original install or on the copy install

                              Cheers
